“To be creative means to be in love with life. You can be creative only if you love life enough that you want to enhance its beauty, you want to bring a little more music to it, a little more poetry to it, a little more dance to it.” – Osho
I was recently inspired by some art on Instagram, the company that I follow is an art boutique located in Sayulita, Mexico called Evoke The Spirit . I was drawn to a photo of a skull, that appeared as though it had been painted, then I realized it was not painted but was hand Yarn Painted. I immediately wanted to order a Yarn Painted Skull from Evoke… then realized, I just need to make a trip to Sayulita! Done, I’ve added Sayulita to my list of “Soul travels” for 2016.
In the mean time I was still feeling creatively compelled to paint my own skull. The same day I drove up to Cave Creek, AZ just 10 minutes north of my house. Cave Creek is a great little western town on the outskirts of metro Phoenix. When driving through the town you feel like you are taken back in time when things were simple and understated. You can still ride your horse to one of the cowboy bars and head in for a drink, that is if you have a horse! I took my good old “horse”powered Kia Soul. Cave Creek also is known for its eclectic artisan shops, from rare crystals to hand crafted western wear to yes, skulls. You certainly can become disconnected from the big city and spend hours or even days enjoying beautiful, yet laid back vibe Cave Creek.
I found my skull for $40 at a local shop called Retablo. With skull in hand, I hopped into my car to get paint supplies, then head home to begin the creative process. It took me a couple of weeks to finish but I did it. I found myself challenged with trying to make “even, symmetrical lines and patterns”; I then realized, art is free-flowing. I need to let go of “perfection” and breath into my truth. I found myself on an adventurous journey inward to cultivate freedom from my head and ignite my creative spirit!
By sharing my journey I hope to pass on the inspiration. Have some fun, there are no rules, go outside the lines. Paint, draw, dance freely and evoke your creativity!
