I’ve just journeyed back from one of my favorite places in Colorado… Telluride! I have been traveling with my husband Ben, to the beautiful mountain town for 14 years. Telluride is equally as magnetic and adventurous in the summer and the winter with amazing mountain terrain to explore in both seasons! There are two areas where you can stay while visiting Telluride, either in town or in the Mountain Village and personally, I really love both! With a complimentary gondola that connects the Village to the town, navigating to and from is not only convenient but also offers unparalleled views of the San Juan Mountains and historic town of Telluride. July 11th was my 38th birthday and I chose to celebrate with my hubby & stay in town at a relatively new boutique hotel called The Dunton Town House, located right in the center of the town of Telluride. The Dunton Town House is full of character and charm with lux amenities, I’m excited to share all that I fell in love with at this boutique property… let the Dunton Journey begin.
This isn’t my first time staying at a Dunton property, it’s my second. My first experience was back in 2015 for my 35th birthday at Dunton Hot Springs located in Dolores, CO just a little over an hour from Telluride. I fell in love with Dunton Hot Springs, it surely is a destination experience that I will never forget. Click this link: onwordjourneys.com/duntonhotsprings to read more about my DHS journey. Dunton exudes authentic vibe with a distinct attention to detail & embodying an eclectic essence. The Dunton brand is really unlike anything I’ve experienced… So, When I heard Dunton had purchased a historic house in the town of Telluride, the Dunton Town House was added my list of places to experience.
Dunton Town House: Dunton Town House welcomes you with charm and a sense of sophisticated hominess. Upon entering the house, you will step into the foyer, kitchen area…the space is filled with natural light. There is a small dining area communal kitchen space with a fridge filled with complementary offerings of juices, Colorado beer and wine and other snack accompaniments. We were greeted by Gareth, the Dunton Town House manager who is just a pleasure to work with. Gareth’s hospitality and genuine charm truly add to the Dunton Town Home experience. After our initial greeting, Gareth gave us a tour of the house and shared passionately about DTH owners and their intention in creating a boutique property to embrace those coming to Telluride. DTH has an upstairs media room with a large flat screen TV, comfy couches and lounge chairs with plenty of books. DTH has been thoughtfully decorated using a mix of custom furnishings, Tyrolean antiques, imported fabric from Tyrol, and Austrian ceramics. DTH offers 5 unique, Tyrolean inspired guest rooms, each with private en-suite bathroom.
Tyrolean: A Region of the Eastern Alps in western Austria and Northern Italy. Inhabited in ancient times by Celtic peoples, the Tyrol consistently passed back and forth, in whole or in part, between Austria and Italy in the 1800s – duntonownhouse.com
Mankei Room: This is one of DTH largest rooms, it is located at the back of the house in a separate stand-alone building. The outside looks like a rustic wood framed farmhouse structure. The Mankei room is located on the second floor, which offers a comfortable sitting area with a king bed and patio. The room has beautiful wooden floors and is adorned with unexpected pops of bright colors in the rug and headboard of the bed. The Mankei room is filled with beautiful natural light. The lux en-suite bath has 2 sinks, a large shower, and bath products from Aesop. The beds that we have experienced at both Dunton properties are AMAZING, not too soft or too firm, we always sleep soundly when staying at a Dunton property.
Special note: The Mankei Room is pet-friendly!
Breakfast: Continental breakfast is included with your nightly rate. After a wonderful, restful night’s sleep, we awoke to soft sunlight glistening in thru our windows. Gareth brought up a fresh pot of coffee & cream to our room, I wrapped myself in one of the plush Dunton robes, sipped my coffee while Ben and I planned our morning adventure in Telluride. Next on our list was to head down to the kitchen for breakfast.
We walked into the kitchen and were welcomed by Gareth. We went to take a seat at the kitchen table & witnessed the most beautiful breakfast spread with an assortment of sweet and savory pastries & bread from a local bakery, homemade Dunton granola, yogurt, fresh fruits, juices, teas & coffee. There were two place settings for us, fresh coffee. Everything was amazing and a perfect start to our day in Telluride!
Dunton Town House Location: Situated on one of Telluride’s prettiest streets (210 Oak Street) only steps from the gondola and two blocks from main street.

Ben and I just hiked the Navajo Lake Trail, about an hour drive to the trailhead from Telluride & Just 10 min to Dunton Hot Springs. It’s such a beautiful hike thru rolling meadows, wooded forests, crossing streams, views of waterfalls in the distance and soaking up the pristine Navajo lake! The Hike is 10 miles in and out, the elevation at the lake is 11,300 ft. elevation gain from the beginning of the hike to the lake is 2,467ft. It’s a really invigorating hike with some steep switchbacks just before you reach the lake. I recommend bringing plenty of water, sunscreen, rain jacket, and pack a lunch to enjoy at the lake. A little picnic, rest and fuel to reboot you for your journey back down.
