Highland Haven Inn… Colorado

Oh, do I have a deep love for Colorado, it’s one of my favorite places to journey year-round! When my good friend, Dusti invited me to join her on a weekend trip to Colorado; without hesitation, I eagerly said yes!  One of our favorite bands, Nahko & Medicine for the People were playing at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO.  Though I have never been to the Red Rocks, there is a bespoken buzz about this outdoor venue; which is carved out of the red rocks & exposed to the moonlit, starry sky!  Dusti took care of getting our concert tickets and it was up to me to find a place for us to stay. I came across this eclectic and charming Inn called Highland Haven, complete with a whimsical treehouse! I’m excited to share about our little playful adventure that offered big heart expansion.

Once we arrived at Highland Haven, we were immediately drawn to the flowing creek that runs alongside their property. After checking in we headed down to the creek for some Mother Nature Playtime. Off went our shoes, we emerged our feet in the crisp, refreshing water. With the fluidity of the rushing creek and the fresh mountain air, it was the perfect duo of energies for soul flow. Highland Haven has done a wonderful job creating outdoor space with ample adirondack chairs, umbrellas where you can just sit back & relax. This is one of my favorite areas on the property! We also received visits from Dezi,  the Inns furry and “oh so sweet” Bulldog. Dezi would come out on the lawn and hang for a bit; then mosey on her way back the Inn’s lobby.

Highland Haven Inn features 18 rooms, suites and cottages, each with “Colorado chic” décor, designed for comfort and luxury.   You can accredit the Colorado chic design and scrumptious breakfast co-owner Gail Riley. All the woodwork, refurbishment and renovations are crafted by co-owner, Tom Statzell. The husband and wife team purchased the Creekside Inn back in the late 1970’s. They first traveled to Evergreen to visit friends. Gail & Tom feel in love with Colorado and the idea of owning an Inn…the couple welcomed their first guest in 1979. After more than 38 years, Tom and Gail remain thrilled about their decision to make a life in Evergreen and to create a genuine haven that offers their guests true luxury in a casual, comfortable setting.

I did reach out to Highland Haven to see if they would like to collaborate and be featured on OnWord Journeys, I was delighted when they said yes. Please note my reviews are 100% my experience. I had hoped to book the TreeHouse but it wasn’t available, so I reserved one of their cozy cottages instead. During our check in process, we were warmly greeted by front desk manager, Roxy & received a surprise… someone had just canceled their reservations for the tree house the night we were staying there. The stars aligned, the Highland Haven TreeHouse was ours to enjoy!

Evergreen: The historic downtown of Evergreen est.1875 sits at an elevation of 7,220 feet in the Rocky Mountains, 15 miles west of Denver, Colorado. Evergreen offers an array of parks, art galleries, theater, restaurants, entertainment, and a variety of outdoor activities. You can walk right into the quaint down town from Highland Haven.  From coffee shops, to boutiques and restaurants, we even found a great crystal shop! Red Rock Park & Amphitheater is 20 min from Evergreen.

Red Rock Park & Amphitheatre: What a spectacular venue! I was blown away by the beauty of the red rock landscape, upon entry I was mesmerized by the towering red rock walls encompassing the sides of the theater. Just beyond the stage, you can see downtown Denver, look upward and the stars are dancing in the sky… it’s magical.  The night we went to the Red Rocks just happened to be a full moon. We literally watched the moon rise over the city and the stage, Luna was illuminating us all with her mystic energy. www.redrocksonline.com

“Red Rocks Amphitheatre is a geological phenomenon – the only naturally-occurring, acoustically perfect amphitheatre in the world. From Sting and The Beatles, to opera stars and U2, every artist aspires to play on this magical, spiritual and emotional stage.” – redrocksonline.com

The night can’t go without mention of why we went to Colorado… Nahko and Medicine for the People! If you haven’t heard of them yet, I am honored to introduce you to the most conscious, music medicine. Do yourself a favor and visit their website www.nahko.com, take a listen on Spotify, iTunes and feel the unity in Nahkos lyrics. Dusti introduced me to this band of talented souls three years ago and I have been a huge fan ever since!

“As a musical collective, our mission is to be the motivation and inspiration for all that have become members of our Tribe. Within our global community, we have access to the tools needed to make changes, take action and spread awareness of how to live in harmony with Mother Gaia herself.” – Nahko& Medicine for the People
